Material.Shading Wireframe vs Flat rendering speed

On my old laptop I'm getting some framerate drops here and there. I already implemented some checks to try and reduce some rendering when this happens (for example instead of using bitmap particles and glow effects for an explosion, I just draw a round mesh, or turn off some rendering intense backgr...

Re: Butterfly

I'll have to make sure the basic concepts of the design are well conveyed. btw this is elaborated in great detail in tutorials but of course nobody reads that ;) News: finally managed to make the Guardian BaseModel! This was trickier than one might think because the basic behaviour is using a big &q...

Re: Butterfly

Thanks for trying it!!! That's good if you found the bullet patterns appropriate - I'd like to make all the other Guardians like this (with some reasonable variations of course), I don't want it to be pointlessly hard or something. The laser recharges when you collect the bits that fly off the Guard...

Re: Timer reset ?

Yes, a component can be reset from the Project Tree but once there are more then 5 animators (even if it's a really small project) it's easy to forget one of them (or remember to do it at all... in the heat of creative outbursts :D ) + you'd have to keep all the Animators in an accessible place etc....

Re: Timer reset ?

Hej Ville, Also Timers should be reset when switching back to a appstate. From my experience, not only Timers but AnimatorSimple components should also get reset when switching states and starting / stopping the Preview. The Animators and Timers that should not get reset are probably best kept in th...

Re: Cubic Rings - nearly perfect rings from iterations of cubes

Here is something similar but a bit more dynamic (it changes the number of meshes according to the radius)! It's pasted directly from a project so it has a few eccentricities - for example (generally speaking) the individual building blocks should get slightly wider as the radius of the circle grows...

Re: Question about CurrentModel, variables and functions

I'd use BaseModel for that, and just have something like EnemyHP in the Definitions of the BaseModel which is used for all enemies (this'd also make it easy to put the code for removal when HP is 0 in the BaseModel etc), not sure how practical that'd be in your project.

Re: Butterfly

Hi Kjell, Well .. for one, you can easily paste a project or snippet that uses embedded data on a forum  Right, the way I wrote it, it makes it sound like I never copy / pasted anything from the forum. Reading it back it sounds somehow pesky the way I put it... blah... Anyway I just thought ma...

Re: Butterfly

Thanks Ville :D Hmm well it is somewhat big but as long as ZGE handles it fine I guess everything's good! The only problem that comes from size is when xml viewer gets to the point with some imported assets (a bitmap or music for example, even if it's a small file) it chokes a bit if a few of them a...

Re: Butterfly

I'd say it's not messy... it could be perceived as such I guess. While setting it up, I made a few disputable choices that made it much easier for me to manage but probably look rather eccentric. Here's what the Project Tree looks like on the first level https://i.imgur.com/Y84fG5X.png . Actually pr...

New update! Here is a quick video showing some of it: https://streamable.com/1ovzs 2018_07_08.avi_snapshot_04.21_[2018.07.08_16.06.41].png ⋅ The tutorial now has nice arrows and stuff pointing to what is what. Skip to 6:15 to see it in action. ⋅ First real Guardian fight! Guardia...

Re: Butterfly

Hey Ville! Thanks :D Yes, it's as you say (draw on paper + computer coloring). Maybe I could include some of it with the build... but then I'd have to scan and prepare it differently etc (which'd take much more time).

Update

I finally managed to scan some sketches, might as well post them.

Just some sketches / ideas, mostly not meant to be implemented directly.

Some characters, usually in before / after edition. It's a bit hard to see but the thing in the middle right is a failed cake! You can probably guess what happens in that part of the story. (There are more characters but I didn't scan them yet.) I'll start coloring it all next.

Re: Butterfly

Don't tempt me ;) I'd really have to rewrite the way how I render the backgrounds of each room if I wanted to implement it properly. And then of course I'd have to animate it (and give him laser eyes etc ;) ) ... and then do it for all the other Guardian fights. The game will be one year late even a...

Re: Butterfly

...and just for fun here are some WiP videos of various things I implemented at some points but are not in the current build for one reason or another. I liked how in Gamecube version of Super Smash menus react to the yellow controller, so I implemented something similar (but much, much simpler) on ...
