ok here is a little vertical shooter,. just a prototype with some basics worked out,. I got the warping background going nicely,. and the color jumping is just a test to see what catches my eye as far as colors,. I started useing models for partical trails and I like the effect,. not sure how much gerometry the system can reasonably handle,. so more testing will be done,. I like the warped cube with the symetry on,. but I think I will fire up Wings 3d tomorrow and see what models I can hack out for this,. simple low poly stuff so i can test out the model importaion,. and then I can play with the shaders to see what I can get out of that component,.. still lovin the ZGE system.,

Nice! I like the warped background and the ambient sound effects. I'm impressed :)

having trouble making modle i like,. wings modeling is serface based and not poly based,. so what lookes nice and flat in wings renders with lines on the flat parts in ZGE, at least in flat shaded mode.
Perhaps I'm missing some settings when exporting,. i'll add some and show for the next ver.

this came to me and so to you,.

I am thinking to add more of the gameplay I developed in 100 invaders,. the pow gage for shot speed, and pods to collect,. its kinda fun already, try to clear the whole invader and get all the pixels!

I like having the text file reader,. people can mod levels,. nice.

oh its fullscreen at 1280x1024. common size i thnk,.

Pretty cool, I need to post a screenshot of this also. And it's difficult :) . I did manage to clear the screen after a few tries.

I did some work over the weekend,. now that I understand how to work the collisions a bit better I have added some more gameplay elements.,

this is based on my 100 invaders game; (on my site!) the idea is that as you shoot the invader (one big one this time, made up of pixel objects) each one brakes loose or turns into a Red Pod that can kill the player,. however instead of simply avoinding these the player needs to shoot them a number of times, and turn them into Green Pods, .then the player much catch them as they continue to fall,. if they get off the bottom of the screen then small invaders that attack the player will appear,. these are not in the game yet,. Im still working on the falling pod stuff,.

ARROWS to move and Z to fire!
SPACE to respawn,. .

more to come on this one.

Some nice progress here! I love the new background graphics.

Also you can probably teach me a thing or two on how to create good sound fx with ZGE by now :) .

a new name,. 'loose pixel pow' see if that sticks,.

added some rudimentary generative 'music' !

gave the player a new ship some warped boxes scaled and rotated,. (someone called the old cube one a shopping bag!) :( this gives a shot vector look to it,.

added some physics to the ship movement,. sorta funky now!

tweeked many graphics and effects.,. and added a title/gameover screen,.

don't complain to me that 'they come too fast' as you have full control over what spawns into what,. i.e if you don't let them fall off the bottom they don't come back !!

not sure how many pow there are I have not cleared this level yet, ..

more to come.

loads of tweeks,.
got all the sounds triggering on seperate chanels now., and tweeked em! Sounding much better,.
reworked the pod physics,. a bit more interesting now,. and getting more fun a bit less difficult,. perhaps.

lots of balancing to do, not sure how to stop the player from shooting too many pixels and causeing too many swoopers to form,. but that could be fine just something the player will learn,. . I will have to watch more people playing it,. my housmates are not new to it., so their value as freash players has diminished,. . once we get some net support going in here perhaps i can get the games to report back stats like steam does,. . lol.

upgrade today its only 40k !

if you do nothing nothing happens,.

if you let stuff fall off the bottom of the screen it grows,.

you control the level of mayham!

improvements;

pulled the camera back and tillted it to give more perspective and a larger game play area,.

worked on making it a bit easier,. however I still have not cleared this level,. eventually this will be the LAST level,. with a few smaller invasion forces come first to let the player learn the game,.

many graphic and effect tweeks,.

now comes in a windowed 800x600, and fullscreen1280x1024,. choose what is best for your rig,.

doing some more experiments and came up with this,.

I like how the play area looks larger with the camera flying about,. creates a sence of drama as well moveing from top to bottom of the screen.

could be smoothed out a bit perhaps,. .

and now the music creates a bit of somber mood in the intrloods,.
