Crystal Planet

Post by y offs et »

It calls them all, this jewel in the great darkness, shining in all wavelengths.

They approach slowly, mesmerized by her beauty, flying their crafts around her. Again and again they search in vain for some sort of landing zone, some place to get out and stretch their imagination with this wonder. Closer and closer, until they realize ... there is no substance, no hard terra, ... only light.

So, ... eventually they venture inward. What wonder! The surface only hints at what lies within. In every direction, with every turn a new vista presents itself.

Time passes unnoticed with the awe. A few, the pragmatic ones, eventually break the spell and flee her siren embrace, orbiting beacons once they are free, warning their fellows of the trap below. The rest, the romantics, the sentimental, are blissfully doomed to forever cruise her interior ... searching ... towards the light ... the light ....

:) Ha! Someone actually interested in my foolin' around.

Don't know how that happened - I can't repeat it - maybe it's your video card.

I was just following an idea, and after numerous twists and turns I stumbled onto the cool interaction effects of coloured sphere meshes. So I invented a storyline.

wow!

the overall effect is very trippy...
my suggestion is: enabling a "slow forward movement", in order to allow the player to fully enjoy the geometric variations. With the current speed, when entering the crystal things change too fast, imho.

I also found some lonely pixels.

New screensaver. Seems more interesting patterns and more vibrant colors.

Who knows? There's a million ways to tweak this thing. :?

Stay tuned.

P.S. - Noobie - this goes in windows / system 32 folder ... and set it as your default screensaver.
