Application stops responding in Vista

Post by Just4Fun »

Hello Again:

I am looking for some more guidance. I'm having trouble getting the second tutorial that is provided to run. Everything is fine until I add the animation for the text. I run the app tutorial and get a non responsive application error in Vista. AKA "Crash".

I am running Vista 64bit. Is that the problem or is it a newbie thing?

Thanks again for enduring me as I try to get this software up and running. :?:

Thanks for reporting the problems instead of giving up, we want zge to work on as wide configuration of computers as possible.

I have not tried ZGE myself on a 64-bit O/S but I can't see any reason it would cause problems. Please let me know exactly when the crash occurs, is it when you run the tutorial as a separate exe-file (using F9)? If so could you also try running the tutorial inside the preview window (select the app-component in the project tree and click the "start"-button) to see if there is any difference.

Also have you tried the included sample projects such as "ZPong", any problems opening or running those?

Hmm,

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 ( and never had any problems ), so it's definitely not that.

Thanks for the help and the information. This morning I spent some time running the included projects. They all work fine. Then went back over everything for Tutorial 2 and found my mistake in input. Figures--stupid mistake which belies my lack of programming skills. ;-) Now everything is running fine.

Couple of questions:

-How possible is it to use ZGE for 2D games?
-Also, is it possible to create any decent games using ZGE without scripting?
-Finally, is it hard to make special effects like fades, blinds, etc?

I am always in awe of programmers who can create this kind of authoring program. What talent they have...

Have a great day.

Hi,

Good to hear that you made a mistake instead of ZGE acting up

In response to your questions.

- To be honest, at this moment ZGE is probably more suitable for 2D games then 3D.

- Realistically, you will have a hard time developing any decent games without using the ZExpression component. But one should not fear scripting. In Game Maker for example you can drag'n'drop a "Set Variable" action onto a event ( after which you fill in the variable name and value in the designated fields ). Once you understand that this action is identical to typing "variable = value;" in a GM script .. you'll be fine.

- Special effects such as the room-transitions in GM are very easy to make in ZGE. And of course the good thing about ZGE is that you never have to wait to try out or alter anything you created ~
