3DS import gives access violation

Post by Mic »

opened it in Blender OK. File attached. Thinking maybe I need to do something to it in Blender that will make it compatible? (Just spent my first 4 hours with Blender .... now have headache :-) ..... is Blender an amazing app that has a steep learning curve?) TIA,

Mic.

Hmm,

Since MeshLab can't import the file either, it's safe to say that the mesh did not get exported properly. I don't use Blender myself though .. so I can't really help you with that. Perhaps somebody else here will come to the rescue, or you can try the Blender forums.

alternatives to Blender for creating 3ds files?

Post by Mic »

Thanks for info ... have grabbed MeshLab also ..... can you recommend the most compatible app to zgame for creating some 3ds files to play with? TIA,

Mic.

Hmm,

Any 3D modeler with .3ds export support should be fine / compatible .. including Blender.

Since I wasn't sure what to recommend, I asked the TIGSource IRC channel:

Milkshape3D ( $35 )
Wings3D ( free )

Excellent ... opened chains.3ds with Wings3d, exported to .3ds and have whirling chains in Visualizer :-)
