Would it be a good idea for a second window that had a fly-through camera that let the author see what was going on while editing & playing the game.
While building games I have to switch the camera from a flythrough camera to lay things out and make sure my 3d math is working ~correctly, then back over the the player camera. It works but its abit awkward and fiddly
another 3d context for editing / secondary edit camera?

Guess this is a personal thing .. but I personally really like working with a single viewport. Even in Softimage I generally go with a single fullscreen view. Anyway, instead of switching cameras you could go to split-screen mode. See this thread for a simple example.
We do need a Camera component though .. as mentioned in my first post on this forum back in 2008
