New User Question

Post by Trident »

Hello I've just discovered ZGameEditor and it looks like a really nice tool, my only question is, does it support animated meshes? I commonly work with Blender and I'd like to transfer my project from Unity3D to ZGame as it conforms with the philosophies of my game to a much greater extent, and the only thing I need to seal the deal is support for animated character models.

No deal I'm afraid. ZGameEditor doesn't have support for skinned characters nor importing animations build-in.

That's a shame, but I'm not willing to give up so easily. Does this engine support any kind of mesh deformation? Or perhaps I may just have to go old school and cut up the limbs and rotate them independently.

Hi Trident,

Nothing that you can import from Blender no. You can however write your own procedural mesh deformation expressions easily in the Editor.

That's a possibility, but again .. not using the importer unfortunately. It doesn't import mesh hierarchy ( plus it messes up your pivot points ) .. so setting up a character made up of separate imported body-parts isn't exactly a single-click affair.

Thing is though, ZGameEditor allows you to use the entire OpenGL API ( unlike Unity Pro, which only exposes a small subset ), so ultimately you can do anything you want really .. including hardware skinning & morphing ;)
